Carswell Holidays

Holidays to a working organic farm on the South Devon coast

Carswell Holidays is set amid organic farmland in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the South Devon Coast, owned by Geoff and Zoe Sayers.

Occupying a stunning position in the heart of the South Hams in Devon, Carswell Holiday cottages are surrounded by unspoilt countryside with beautiful sea views. The spectacular South West Coast Path is right on the doorstep, providing stunning walks that lead to quiet sandy beaches and picturesque villages.

Actually consisting of four neighbouring farms – Carswell, Lambside, Caulston and Rowden – our farmland stretches for nearly 4 miles along the coast, with the mild climate allowing our cows to enjoy fresh sea air and lush green grass all year round!

Carswell Farm is home to the Carswell Holidays office, as well as being the access point to The Beach Hut.

Lambside Farm, where five of our holiday cottages are found, was once owned by Edward Baring (of the well known bank) and is on the site of the Domesday settlement, ‘Lammeseta’. Edward married the heiress to the adjoining Flete Estate, with the carriageway he built to Noss Mayo now forming part of the coast path (a fantastic local walk!).

Caulston Farm and Rowden Farm are both working dairy farms.

Environmental Work

There is an exceptional variety of wildlife and plants on and around Carswell Farm. Conservation and sustainability are very important to us – find out more about our environmental work here.

The surrounding area

With the River Yealm to the west and the River Erme to the east (where 130 acres of sand are uncovered at low tide), our little corner of Devon remains relatively undiscovered. The remote wilderness of Dartmoor dominates the views to the north and is just a short drive away, while the panoramic sea views to the south are the focus of many holidays to Carswell. Visitors can also explore the nearby picturesque towns of Kingsbridge, Dartmouth and Salcombe, or visit the historic maritime city of Plymouth to see where the Mayflower set sail to America or check out the famous National Marine Aquarium.
