Local Attractions in South Devon
South Devon has a whole host of attractions for all the family to enjoy. Some are perfect for rainy days, such as the National Marine Aquarium, while others are fabulous for the little ones, like Pennywell Farm. NEAR ST. AUSTELL
Although situated in Cornwall, it is only 1.5 hours from Carswell Farm and well worth the drive. In the Eden Project’s huge covered conservatories, you can visit rainforests, the Mediterranean, South Africa and California.
Miniature Pony and Animal Farm
Situated on Dartmoor, there are oveer 150 animals are waiting to meet you. Enjoy a pony ride, display or join in with one of the hands on activities.
Mount Edgecumbe is situated in beautiful landscape, and the house is open during the summer months. Why not catch the Cremyll foot ferry from Plymouth?
Pennywell Farm and Wildlife Centre
An award-winning farm near Buckfastleigh. This is a fantastic day out for families, with hundreds of friendly animals as well as plenty of activities and rides.
Plymouth Gin Distillery
Plymouth’s historic Barbican is the oldest in the country, and is well known the world over for the excellent quality of its gin. Shop and distillery tour.
The nearest beach to Carswell Farm Cottages, accessed by a short walk along the South West Coast Path. A secluded beach, good for swimming.
The Blue Lagoon
Our own private cove, just off the South West Coast Path near St Anchorite’s Rock. Access is via a padlocked gate, exclusively for Carswell Cottage guests.
Mothecombe (Meadowsfoot Beach)
Reached in a few minutes by car or by a 1 hour walk along the coast path, with 150 acres of sand at low tide. Visitors can also wade across the River Erme to neighbouring Wonwell Beach.
A popular beach for families, with rock pools and a great expanse of sand at low tide which creates a causeway to historic Burgh Island. Lifeguards, beach cafe & water sports available.
One of the most popular beaches in the area, located across the River Avon from Bigbury-On-Sea. Fantastic surf and a great expanse of sand at low tide.
A family-friendly beach near Plymouth with a National Trust car park, clean waters, plenty of sand and lots of rockpools for children to explore.
Above are just a few of the best beaches near Carswell Farm but there are many more fantastic options to discover nearby, many with facilities including toilets and dining options. These include Bovisand, Challaborough, Thurlestone, Hope Cove, Slapton Sands and Blackpool Sands.
